About Shire of Lake Grace Youth Advisory Committee

The Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) is a volunteer group of active Shire of Lake Grace Youth between the ages of 10 and 17 years. The YAC supports the aspirations, views and needs of young people and facilitates participation in projects for the benefit of young people in the Shire of Lake Grace. The YAC acts as a consultative body on matters arising in Council business, which affect young people.

The YAC is established by the Shire of Lake Grace and is administered and structured by the Community Economic Development Officer. The YAC operates financially under the auspice of the Lake Grace Development Association.

About This Opportunity:

As A YAC member you will:

  • Participate in monthly YAC meetings; 
  • Raise a positive profile of young people in the community;
  • Support the Shire’s Aspire 2033 Strategic Community Plan;
  • Organise a timetable of events and activities for the YAC, once endorsed at a meeting. 
  • Promote Shire of Lake Grace YAC in the community; and 
  • Encourage community members who are interested in joining YAC to attend a meeting by pre-arrangement.

 

About YOU:

You may be seeking experience that helps you develop leadership and communication skills, or to make a positive impact in your community.

For this role you will:

  • Be aged between 10 and 17 years and live within the Shire of Lake Grace;
  • Have good communication skills and be a great team player;
  • Have an empathic or compassionate nature;
  • Have a desire to understand as well as learn from other YAC members; and
  • Be inclusive and supportive of all YAC members and members of the community.

 

How to become a Youth Advisory Committee Member:

Fill out an application form.

This form can be completed online. Alternatively, contact shire@lakegrace.wa.gov.au for one to be emailed to you. It can then be printed and submitted via email, or delivered to the Shire of Lake Grace administration building.

Once we have received your application and you meet the criteria, we will invite you to the next YAC meeting where you can be officially initiated into the YAC.
