Lake Grace Shire is situated in the South-East of Western Australia and is one of the largest agricultural Shires in the State. It incorporates the communities of Lake Grace, Newdegate, Lake King, Varley and part of Pingaring, and has 1,361 people inhabiting its 11,890 km2.

Restricted Burn Period

The Shire of Lake Grace will enter the Restricted Burning period at midnight on 31 January. From 1 February until 15 March 2021 you will need a permit to light a fire in the open air.

Total Fire Bans and Harvest and Vehicle Movement Bans – What’s the Difference?

During our hot, dry summer months we all have a shared responsibility to make sure that the chance of a bush fire starting or spreading is minimised. The Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) and the Shire of Lake Grace will put out bans that restrict some activities that may cause fires and it can sometimes be a little tricky to know what you can and can’t do when a ban has been imposed.

The Prohibited Burning Season

is now in place, brought forward from 1 November due to extremely dry local conditions. From midnight on Wednesday 22 October it is illegal to light a fire in open air within the Shire.
